Welcome letter

I am most pleased to announce that the 2021 virtual conference of the International Council of Museums Committee for Museums and Collections of Natural History (ICOM NATHIST) will be hosted by Prirodoslovni muzej Slovenije (transl. The Slovenian Museum of Natural History) from 13th - 15th September 2021.

As both Director of the Slovenian Museum of Natural History and board member of ICOM NATHIST, responsible for organizing the conference, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to join us at the virtual conference.  The conference theme will be THE OLDEST NATURAL HISTORY COLLECTIONS AS A CHALLENGE OF RESEARCH AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS. The theme will give us the opportunity to raise the reputation and interest for natural history collections all over the world. So let us be very proud and help those entrusted with resourcing the stewardship of our treasures to recognize the value of natural history collections and to provide for their ongoing protection. It is a great opportunity for natural history institutions to come virtually together to share news and information in these exciting and unpredictable times. The programme will be filled with opportunities not only to think deeply about our practice, but also to make important and useful face-to-face meetings: in the COVID-19 situation they will be virtual, but at least more accessible to everyone.

The Slovenian Museum of Natural History - with founding collections of the first Slovenian museum - celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2021, so we plan a ceremonial event during the conference. We will be grateful and honoured with at least virtual presence of our esteemed colleagues from all over the world.

    Best wishes,

    Breda Činč Juhant, Ph.D.
Director, Slovenian Museum of Natural History
    ICOM NATHIST Board Member
